Here, a single day moves across continents: a lecture from a British faculty, lunch with classmates from four countries, a skyline sunset that costs nothing. Drag through a day and see the Dubai students actually live.

Red Line, northbound
Before seven in the morning, the carriage already holds forty nationalities, and almost nobody is a tourist. This is Dubai's truest luxury: a daily commute that feels like a meeting of the whole world.
There is a student Nol card at a fraction of the normal fare. Most students find out about it in second year.
An international branch campus
Dubai brings together branch campuses of universities from six continents inside about thirty square kilometres. A British degree, an Indian degree and an Australian degree can share the same bus route.
It is a rare privilege, and it means every student you meet brings a different calendar, a different system and a different way of seeing the world.
The canteen, or the place two stops away
Lunch on campus is convenient. Lunch fifteen minutes away is a third of the price and twice as good, and somebody in your year already knows exactly where.
You will find that place in month four. It was there in week one.
Anywhere with air conditioning
For four months of the year the outdoors is a corridor between buildings. Student life moves indoors, and the city is quietly excellent at indoors.
The libraries, the malls, the free museums and the twenty-four-hour study spots are not on any map you were given.
Kite Beach, and the whole skyline goes orange
This is the hour Dubai shows off, and it costs nothing. The beach is free, the run along it is free, the view is free, and for about forty minutes it is the most beautiful city on earth.
The free half of Dubai is enormous. It is just never the half that gets advertised to you.
A society night on the other side of the city
There is something on every night of the week, across every campus, and most of it is open to students from any university. The hard part has never been that nothing is happening.
The hard part is that it is announced in one group chat you are not in, eleven hours before it starts.

The best evenings here are rarely the most expensive ones. Six friends from four countries share dishes from a fifth, and that is the Dubai you will remember.
Nobody puts this in a city guide, because there is nothing to sell you at the end of it. We put it in ours.
The long way home
The metro has stopped. You are splitting a car four ways and working out what the month costs. This is the quiet arithmetic every student here does and nobody talks about.
Getting this right is worth more than any discount card. It is the single biggest saving available to a student in this city.

02 The problem
A world-class city deserves a world-class guide.
The information already exists. It is scattered across three hundred places that do not know about each other, and none of them were written for you.
An international student arriving in Dubai is handed an offer letter, a visa process and a campus address, and is then expected to work out the other ninety per cent alone. Where to live and what rent is actually fair. Which bank will open an account. How to get an Emirates ID, a SIM, insurance, a transport card. What a taxi costs at 2am. Which of the things everyone says are expensive genuinely are.
None of it is secret. All of it is somewhere. It is in a WhatsApp group of three hundred people, a university PDF last updated years ago, a blog written for someone on a two-week holiday, a forum thread about a different emirate, and one friend of a friend who moved here four years ago and has stopped replying.

Everyone is expected to just catch the phase.
There is an unspoken assumption that a student works all of this out by absorption, in the first few weeks, without asking. Some do. The rest spend a year quietly behind, paying more for everything, and never mention it.

None of these are hard questions. They are only hard to find answers to, and that is a solvable problem. It is the whole reason this exists.

What we are for, and what finished looks like.
Mission
Give every student in Dubai, from every country and every campus, the same head start as the best-connected student in the city.
Not more content. Fewer unknowns. Everything a student here needs to know, from what to do and what it costs to where to live, how to get there and who to ask, gathered in one current, carefully curated and free place. It is written by students who learned it first-hand, so you do not have to.
Vision
Dubai as the world's most welcoming city in which to be a student.
A city that draws students from every corner of the globe should offer them one elegant front door. Success, for us, looks like a student landing at DXB with no contacts and no family nearby, who feels at home by the end of their first term, because everything they needed was already written down for them, and it was free.
05 How we build it
Five rules we do not break.
A premium experience comes from standards, not price tags. These are the commitments that decide what we build and, just as often, what we leave out.

Free for students. Permanently.
No membership, no premium tier, no paywall on a listing. A student platform that charges students has misunderstood its own users. If something costs money to run, that is our problem to solve elsewhere.

If it is not built, we say it is not built.
Eleven sections of this site are honest explanations rather than products, and every one of them says so in plain language on the page itself. We would rather be trusted than look finished.

Real prices, checked.
Every number is what a student actually pays, not the advertised rate and not a tourist figure. A discount appears here only once we have confirmed it directly. An unverified offer is worse than no offer.

Dubai's student community spans dozens of nationalities and every kind of institution. Some universities here never appear in any guide to the city. The small campuses get the same care as the large ones, and no student is written for as an afterthought.

07 Who is behind it
An international team of students, across campuses and cultures.
DubaiStudentLife began as a shared list of campus events passed between a handful of students at different universities, each from a different country, none of whom could see what was happening beyond their own campus. It grew because every gap we closed revealed a larger one beneath it.
We are not a media company, and we are not a start-up with a funding round to announce. We are students from across the world, building in this city the thing we wished we had in our first year, while we still remember exactly how it felt to arrive without it.
An exceptional city deserves an exceptional student experience.
Dubai is one of the great cities in which to be young: global, ambitious and home to students from nearly every nation on earth. Very little about student life here is written down where a student can find it. So we are writing it down, beautifully and for free.
